Eubacteria
10 Characteristics of Eubacteria
- Cell walls are constructed of peptidoglycan
- Can live in many different environments
- Generally beneficial. However, some are harmful.
- There are more bacteria in the body than there are people in the world
- They are prokaryotes
- Come in three different shapes - cocci, bacilli, spirochetes
- Some bacteria are used in the production of foods such as cheese and yogurt
- Humans need bacteria in order to function properly
- All surfaces are covered with thriving bacteria
- Some bacteria are heterotrophs and others are autotrophs
Eubacteria are singlecelled organisms. They are found virtually everywhere. They find food in a variety of ways: most are heterotrophic, though some can use photosynthesis to produce their own energy. They move with the help of flagella and cillia. Bacteria reproduce asexually through binary fission.
